Delicious Vanilla Bean Frosting With Sprinkles

Gold figurine cake topper

Sprinkles. Can you even say the word without smiling?! On top of cookies, ice cream, and cupcakes they make for an inviting, and fun presentation without all the hassle of any super fancy decorating.

When I was scouring around the internet on how to decorate my niece’s birthday cake, I came across the cutest cake on that had sprinkles IN the frosting! This was something I had never seen done before, and it looked young and easy to make, which was exactly what I was going for.

After putting it all together, I have to say this is definitely a recipe I am keeping on hand for birthdays and holidays alike. How cute would this be with orange and black sprinkles for Halloween, and why did I not do red and green for this past Christmas?! Dangit!

Here is the recipe I’ve adapted from Sweet Bake Shop that will make any cake a little more tasty… and pretty. 🙂

FYI – This recipe allows enough icing to frost a 6-inch 4 layer cake, or an 8-inch 2 layer cake with edge and trim design. You may want to 1.5 or double the recipe if you are also using it as a filling.

Vanilla Bean Frosting with Sprinkles

  • 2 1/2  Cups Unsalted Butter (At Room Temperature)
  • 6 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoons Clear Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Bean Paste
  • 1/4 Cup – 1/2 Cup Jimmy Sprinkles
  • Food Color Gel (For Edges and Trim)

Using a hand mixer or stand mixer with paddle attachment, beat the butter on medium speed until it is creamy. Stop the mixer and add the powdered sugar. Turn mixer on low speed and beat until sugar and butter are well incorporated. Add the vanilla and vanilla bean paste and beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes, until it is light and fluffy. Make sure to scrape down the sides every now and then so everythign is mixed properly.

Turn off mixer and set aside 1 – 1 1/2 cups of the plain frosting. This is the icing you will add 2 drops of gel food coloring to and mix to create the color for your borders on your cake.

With the remaining frosting, add your Jimmy sprinkles and stir gently to combine, and TA-DA! You have a delicious vanilla bean frosting with sprinkles.
