Pop, fizz, CLINK! With only one month left before my beautiful cousin Emily’s wedding day, it was time to steal her away from all the planning, drama, and BOYS for a day. 🙂 Yup, you guessed it… it was time for a BACHELORETTE PARTY!
Because I was working with a delicate balance of wanting some of Emily’s bachelorette party to be a surprise while still wanting to get her opinion on things, the planning began by asking her how she pictured her day going. She didn’t want the typical night out of bar hopping, so we opted to start earlier in the day which worked perfectly with the other secrets I had brewing… secrets that I can finally spill now that the day has arrived! YAY!
Emily has always ADORED alpacas, but even with all her affection, she has never had the opportunity to pet one in real life. Since a bachelorette party is all about the bride, I was determined to change this and make this dream come true! I spent weeks calling and hunting around for places that had alpacas near San Antonio, and surprisingly (or not so surprisingly) there were next to none! Most alpaca farms were out of city and would require an overnight stay to make a fun day worth while, and just when I thought it wouldn’t be possible, I found Happy Tails Entertainment, a mobile petting zoo.
I spoke with the wonderful husband and wife duo about what I was looking to do, and they were excited to be involved with Operation Alpaca! In fact, I actually got to choose five furry friends to come visit the girls! We had a porcupine, lemur, kinkajou, wallaby, and of course the alpaca.
With the animals scheduled and ready for their grand entrance, piecing the rest of the party together came easily! UNICORNS were a must have in the decor because 1) Emily likes them, 2) who doesn’t like them, and 3) they make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside with the whimsical magicness. <3
Continuing the theme of all things Emily, it was only appropriate to start our day in a decorated unicorn bachelorette-mobile that drove us to Brown Coffee. Emily will be moving after she gets married, and her favorite coffee shop is staying behind, so we have to squeeze in as many visits as possible.
Cortaves in tow, our next stop was to grab brunch at Whiskey Cake. Once or bellies were nice and happy we hopped back into our festive ride to visit a rooftop bar called Paramour. Bright and airy with a TON of outdoor seating, Paramour was the perfect place to sip on tasty cocktails made by mixologist. I haven’t ever known the difference between a bartender and mixologist, but after trying the drinks at this place – I get it! The drinks were like nothing I’ve seen. I had one drink called a Fun Bag, which consisted of some super tasty concoction served in a ziploc bag sealed with a zip tie! Weird but really good! Fresh herbs and an assortment of other elixirs decorated the bar making the process of watching the drinks being made just as fun as drinking them. The bar was like a secret lair and the bartender its mad scientist!
Sip, Sip, Sip!
A few drinks later and it was ANIMAL TIME! Everyone (family and girls’ significant others included) gathered to watch as Anita with Happy Tails Entertainment brought the animals out one at a time. We made Emily close her eyes and guess what each was, making it even MORE entertaining.
Last but not least came KUZCO! I’m not sure if Emily was expecting it or not because Anita did a great job playing along that they didn’t have any alpacas, but her squeal of excitement after she opened her eyes let me know she loved it either way!
My heart was full seeing Emily so happy. I’m so glad I got to make one of her small life dreams come true. <3
Waving bye to our new animals friends, we headed back inside for light snacks and beverages in our unicorn-adored room. At first, I was really worried the girls were going to think the animals and unicorn theme would be too little-kid-ish. Although the Golden Rule of always treating others the way you want to be treated has probably NEVER been applied to planning a bachelorette party, I went ahead and applied it because I’ve never been one to color inside the lines. 🙂 The more I thought about the theme and details, the more I realized how fun and different it would be. I knew it would be something I would like, and I thought the girls would like it too. (I mean just look at those cookies from Shortbread Baking Co. They’re almost too cute to eat… Almost!)
Once all unmentionable gifts were opened, it was time for the party to come to an end. Parting favors of cute baby Proseco bottles that I added hand-lettered tags to were exchanged, hugs were given, and the last lost makeup bag found its way home.
More than anything, I think my favorite part of the day was seeing how much joy the alpaca brought Emily! In life and in her upcoming marriage that is what I wish for her – an abundance of happiness!
I had a great time planning this party, and I think all the girls had a great time celebrating! If you are planning a bachelorette party and need help putting things together, feel free to reach out! I’d love to help create a theme perfect for the bride-to-be! <3
A special thank you to my wonderful husband for driving us ladies around all day and keeping us safe. I love you more than anything! You are a true blessing to me. <3
And another special thank you to my momma! 🙂 Her kind soul helped me clean, plan, decorate and more heading up to this big day. The day wouldn’t have been half as successful without her help! I love you! Thank you so much!
