You may think avocados and bananas are an unlikely combination, but this protein-packed smoothie will have you thinking otherwise! Since getting lured into a Vitamix demo at Sam’s (a very successful demo because I ended up buying the machine!) I have been experimenting with smoothie recipes.
Too often smoothies and juices make me crash and burn with no energy because of the sugar spike . Believe it or not there is a ton of fruit in some of those green drinks! Also, another concern I had was that I would drink a juice and still feel hungry. I’d end up eating a 2nd breakfast and in-turn adding more calories instead of doing something good for my health.
This smoothie not only allows you to control the sweetness for your taste and health needs, but also kept me feeling full until lunch time. It is a true meal replacement and a fantastic post-workout snack! Avocados are full of heart-healthy monousaturated fats and bananas are a great addition for potassium to prevent muscle cramps and soreness. Throw in the yogurt and cottage cheese, and you’ve got the perfect balance of protein to kick start your day.
Here is what you’ll need to sip your way to more energy.
Avocado Banana Smoothie
1 Banana (You can use frozen or room temp. Whatever’s handy!)
1 Large Ripe Avocado
1 C. Coconut Water
1/4 C. Plain Greek Yogurt
1/4 C. Low-fat Cottage Cheese**
2 Tsp. Local Honey (Add more or less to taste. It’s your call!)
1/2 Tsp. Vanilla Extract
Pinch of Cinnamon (For garnish)
Add all ingredients to your blender remembering to put the heaviest items on the top so the weight pushes the food down and blends it faster. Blend until there is an even consistency and color. **If you’re not a fan of cottage cheese, or don’t have any on hand, double up on the yogurt. I use cottage cheese so it is less tangy and has a little saltiness to it.
Pour your smoothie into a glass slowly. It is pretty thick! Once that’s done, add a dash of cinnamon.
A quick, filling and healthy meal that is full of protein and healthy proteins and omega 3’s is that simple.
